Building a Resilient Future Outcome Document

The Global Resilience Partnership convened over 50 organisations to come together at the Building a Resilient Future Day. The Day was sponsored by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) and hosted by The New School in New York on 22 September. It was attended by over 500 practitioners from governments, businesses, grassroots groups, civil society
organisations, media outlets and academic institutions with many others joining online and sharing their commitments to building a resilient future.

Headline messages from ‘Building a Resilient Future’ prepared for the UN Secretary General’s Climate Action Summit

Incremental change is insufficient. These actions and initiatives need to be urgently scaled to accelerate transformation towards a resilient future that serves the most vulnerable communities and those most impacted by climate change and related systemic stresses. If we fail on these commitments, we fail on the SDGs and the Paris Agreement.

Resilience Insights

The Resilience Insights Report distils and illuminates the latest evidence from across the breadth of the Global Resilience Partnership to inform future resilience programming at a time when it is more important than ever.

Synthesis of Water Window Challenge Results

The Water Window Challenge comprises 11 Challenge Winners that implemented 12 projects. Water Window Challenge Winners were funded by the Z Zurich Foundation. This synthesis summarizes progress the Challenge Winners have made, and how they have done it.

Synthesis of Global Resilience Challenge Results

Ten projects focused on transforming risks around shocks and stresses experienced across the target geographies into opportunities, with the overarching objective of reaching millions of people. Funded by USAID, each grantee received up to US$1.45 million to implement and scale up their resilience solutions. This synthesis stock-takes and synthesizes the progress made by the Global Resilience Challenge projects.

Stepping Up Action on Delivering a Resilient Future

This APCW affiliated event “Stepping up Actions on Delivering a Resilient Future” was held to provide stakeholders from Asia and the Pacific with the opportunity to raise the need for urgent action and share how this particularly vulnerable region is finding unique and effective ways to build resilience to climate change. The day complements the event held at Africa Climate Week, Stepping Up Action on Building Climate Resilience Agriculture and Food Systems in Africa.

Case study: Lessons of Challenge Funds for Resilience Building

This case study looks at evidence of good practice in the use of Challenge Funds to deliver resilience outcomes based on a review of literature.

Case Study: Examples of Effective Resilience Programming

42 programs that were either funded or implemented by members of the GRP were reviewed to gather the best insights from the whole community. Where possible, the effectiveness of a particular intervention is provided based on robust quantitative or mixed methods data, which was prioritized as part of this review.

The GRAID Briefs

GRAID is a programme hosted by the Stockholm Resilience Centre (SRC) and funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida). It aims to bridge the worlds of resilience thinking and development practice.

Building Climate Resilience and Adaptation in LDCs and SIDS

The side event was organized by the IFRC on the margin of the HLPF 2019 high-level political forum on sustainable development, and was co-sponsored by Ireland, Egypt, the UK, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Malawi, Trinidad and Tobago, St Lucia, Turkey, among others.
