How can unconditional cash transfers advance nature conservation? This full-day workshop will brought together changemakers, funders, researchers, and community stakeholders to build momentum around the use of unconditional cash transfers as a tool for driving conservation and nature-positive outcomes in East Africa.
Hosted by the founding members of the Cash for Conservation Working Group. The workshop took place over one day at the Ikigai coworking space in Nairobi, and brought together experts who offer experience from three communities of practice: unconditional cash transfer schemes; conservation & nature; and fintech & finance. The main aims of the event were to:
- Raise awareness of and engagement with the work of the Cash for Conservation group, understanding the potential role of unconditional cash transfers in achieving conservation outcomes.
- Share best practice and discuss the main challenges facing conservation, nature-positive agriculture and climate finance.
- Design options for pilots of cash for conservation and nature in East Africa.
- Explore the potential sources of finance which could be channelled to scale up such programmes.
