Urban informality presents many challenges, yet these communities are vital contributors to local economies and play a critical role in the functioning of cities. Recognizing the economic role of these communities in urban areas, from small-scale businesses to the labour force, this session will explore how informal communities can be central to urban climate resilience and will discuss how grassroots-led approaches, combined with systemic support from governments and private sector can drive sustainable, inclusive urban development.
This session will focus on the opportunity by highlighting the innovative potential of informal settlements and the pathways for scaling these grassroots resilience efforts from local to national levels, integrating them into broader urban planning and climate strategies.
