Aquahope in Siaya and Farms of freedom in Kajiado

Empowering women through sustainable farming, financial tools, and climate resilience.

Lead organisation: Global Capacity Building Centre
Country: Kenya

The Global Capacity Building Centre (GCBC) will implement two transformative projects to empower women through sustainable livelihoods in Kenya. In Siaya County, the Aquahope Project will support women through sustainable caged fish farming, reducing reliance on exploitative income sources. Women will be organised into Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs), trained in aquaculture, and linked to financiers who will install fish cages with a pay-upon-harvest model.

The project aims to foster economic independence, promote sustainable food systems, and improve community nutrition and health. In Kajiado County, GCBC will implement the Farms of Freedom Project, which empowers women through training in regenerative agriculture, crop-livestock integration, organic manure production, and access to weather and financial advisory services. By building sustainable livelihoods, this project will empower women in Kajiado County to break the cycle of early marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM).
