Lead organisation: Zowasel
Zowasel is deploying a robust and scalable digital monitoring, reporting, and verification (D-MRV) system for Diageo’s sorghum value chain in Tanzania’s Singida and Tabora regions. The system is designed to meet global climate change reporting through transparency and accountability, and gives Diageo the tools to drive its sustainability initiatives to transform agriculture from a carbon source to a carbon sink.
Zowasel leverages the experience of working with sorghum farmers in the Oyo and Kwara southwest regions of Nigeria, and simplifies tracking and reporting on voluntary and regulatory compliance to save time and resources. The platform rewards farmers with carbon incentives to drive the transition and reinvest in their farmlands and communities. Farmers can access alternative finance to drive the transition through the Zowasel AI-powered Alternative Credit Evaluation Scoring System (ACESS), an ethical credit scoring and loan assessment tool that bridges the gap between farmers and financial institutions to unlock access to credit for farmers to drive the transition to sustainable agriculture.
Zowasel has been selected as one of the RAIN bridge fund recipients. Bridge funding supports selected projects to sustain and build on their work during 2026. This funding is intended to provide a strategic bridge between the original RAIN award and future pathways for scale, influence, or longer-term financing. Bridge funding now accelerates this progress through the Crop Pilot “Regenerative Agriculture from Grain to Glass,” which expands to more farmers, cooperatives, and new crops such as barley.
