Africa Climate Week (ACW 2023)

Africa Climate Week (4-8 Sep) is one of four Regional Climate Weeks being held this year to build momentum ahead of COP28.

This year Africa Climate Week will take place in Kenya and is hosted by the government of Kenya. This event will be organized in parallel with the African Climate Action Summit (4-6 September), also hosted by Kenya.

Four Regional Climate Weeks will be build momentum ahead of COP28 and the conclusion of the first global stocktake, designed to chart the way for fulfilling the Paris Agreement’s key goals.

Regional Climate Weeks bring together a diverse range of stakeholders for regional collaboration on climate change. Participants include representatives of governments, the private sector, development organizations, youth groups and civil society opening space. The events provide numerous opportunities to engage in solution-oriented dialogues, to build new partnerships and collaborate on climate action projects.

This year we will be co-hosting two sessions at AWC 2023:

Building Adaptation and Resilience Across Systems
7 September 2023, 16:30 – 17:30 LOCAL TIME

During this session, we will be focusing on rallying non-state action for the implementation of the Sharm-El-Sheikh Adaptation Agenda (SAA), specifically within the Africa region. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)High-Level Climate Champions (HLCC) and the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action (MPGCA) will be joining us to share their insights and strategies on how we can collectively drive adaptation and resilience in societies, health, livelihoods, and economies while also cutting across systems.

Cultivating an ecosystem for scaling innovation in Africa:
Concrete examples from the ground
8 September 2023, 15:00 -16:00 LOCAL TIME

In this session, we will highlight concrete examples of successful innovation on the ground. We will hear from participants of our innovation challenge, the Resilient Agricultural Innovations for Nature challenge (RAIN), as well as from other entrepreneurship initiatives. They will share their innovative and inspiring solutions to address the challenges faced in East Africa regarding food systems, land management, water resources, and ocean ecosystems.

If you have any questions or would like further information, please don’t hesitate to reach out to David Gonzalez. We look forward to connecting with you at Africa Climate Week 2023 and jointly exploring ways to build adaptation, resilience, and innovation in Africa.
