Resurgence

Inclusive weather and early warning services for climate resilient cities and communities.

Resurgence is a global design, communications and consulting company that specialises in urban climate risk and resilience in the global south. They have award-winning expertise in helping governments, city authorities, urban planners, disaster risk experts, responders and communities to reduce the effects of climate hazards and high impact weather events such as flooding, storms and heatwaves.

Resurgence also focuses on Fragile, Conflict, and Violence (FCV) settings, working to enhance adaptation and resilience. Their vision is a world where everyone has access to actionable weather, early warning, and climate risk information.

Their solutions include co-designing inclusive early warning systems with city and community stakeholders, and supporting governments and cities to develop the data infrastructure to manage and reduce climate risk.  One such early warning solution is DARAJA.

DARAJA, which launched in Kenya and Tanzania in 2018, bridges the gap between national weather forecasters and underserved urban communities, particularly in informal settlements. By collaborating with residents, media, city authorities, and disaster risk experts, DARAJA simplifies weather forecasts using clear terminology and icons and disseminates them through access means like SMS, radio public notice boards, loudspeakers, and schools, ensuring wide access. DARAJA’s community-driven approach has significantly improved the understanding and use of weather information.
