The Youth Innovation Lab (YIL), in partnership with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) and Tikapur Municipality in Nepal, collaborated on a unique project to create a flood risk mural. This initiative began in classrooms, where children were encouraged to express their experiences with floods through drawings and artistic expressions.

The mural is a visual representation of the municipality interaction map, developed by YIL on the Bipad Portal Platform. This map highlights flood risks, demographic details, infrastructure, and land information within the municipality. The source of this map can be accessed at bipadportal.gov.np/vis-risk.

The documentary explores the journey of creating the flood risk mural, it showcases experiences of flood-affected communities in Nepal and the local municipality’s role in creating the flood risk mural.

By presenting scientific and geospatial data in a visually engaging way, the interactive map facilitates informed decision-making. To help communities better understand the map, YIL employed an artistic approach, translating complex scientific information into a language that resonates with them.

YIL was one of the 2023 Knowledge into Use award winners. Learn more about the Knowledge into Use awards here.
