In order to accumulate and learn from resilience-building approaches in tackling the impacts of losses and damages, the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD) together with GRP and with support from Irish Aid initiated the Voices from the Frontline (VFL) phase III series in 2023. The project captures and disseminates stories of the losses and damages the local communities face, their needs and their stories of resilience.
The analyses of the previous stories (VFL phase I & II) has revealed that despite making important contributions in building resilience, locally driven data and information are still not widely used in decision making.
Through this series, we aim to accumulate, learn from and disseminate loss and damage stories to build an evidence base for the deeper shifts needed to build community resilience in the face of climate change.
In Malawi, we meet Katie Chisambi and Patricia Chibaka, who, together with their community, are working to address the aftermath of extreme weather events. This is the tenth of the “Voices from the Frontline (Phase III)” stories by GRP and ICCCAD supported by Irish Aid.
In Sri Lanka, we meet Subramaniyam Kanahendran, who shares the hardships he has experienced due to an unexpected weather event. This is the ninth of the “Voices from the Frontline (Phase III)” stories by GRP and ICCCAD supported by Irish Aid.
In Laborie, Saint Lucia, fishers adopt new practices to remain viable in the face of climate change. This is the eighth of the “Voices from the Frontline (Phase III)” stories by GRP and ICCCAD supported by Irish Aid.
In Kasese District, Uganda, we discover the challenges the community faces as they strive to recover from the devastating impact of heavy rainfall. This is the seventh of the “Voices from the Frontline (Phase III)” stories by GRP and ICCCAD supported by Irish Aid.
In Manzanillo, Costa Rica, we meet Ana Cecilia Solís Ugalde, a community leader who created a mangrove nursery to build climate resilience in her community. This is the sixth of the “Voices from the Frontline (Phase III)” stories by GRP and ICCCAD supported by Irish Aid.
